The quote by Mr. T. Schranz “Good companies manage Engineering. Great companies manage Product” really resonates with me!

  1. What was your career journey that led you to joining DeNexus?

A long but eventful path led me to DeNexus! Having worked in Fortune 100, Not-for-Profit and everything in between for the past 20 odd years, I’ve never seen a reason to compromise on my values and code of ethics engraved in me by my parents. To me it’s all about people and relationships. Skeptical? Check this out (wrote this before the pandemic, and with distributed teams even more apt): https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/rips-ode-middle-management-srikant-rachakonda-pmp/

Being an engineer by way of my MS degree, I’ve always gravitated to solving business problems using repeatable process (later Agile), engineering and logic. Additionally, being a 1st generation immigrant to the US of A, I could couple my natural frugality to get the most value to the end customer. All this combined pretty much ensured that I would end up in Product Management. With Data and Cyber Security becoming impossible to ignore, I focused on startups that leveraged both and by trial and error, I ended up here at DeNexus.

DeNexus is setting out to solve something audacious by building a true end-to-end Risk Quantification, Management, and Transfer Solution and aims to become the global standard of industrial cyber risk quantification – and therefore, naturally, I’m here! 😀

  1. Where will you be based?

Chantilly, VA (near Washington DC) – but if you are paying for drinks, I can be anywhere!

  1. What is in the average day of the Director of Product Management?

If you have ever wanted to see what it is to be a CEO without any real power, be answerable and accountable to every wrong decision, while never wanting to get any credit for the good ones – join a start-up as a product manager. It’s exhilarating! Lol. I’m kidding. Sort of!

An average day is spend listening to everyone, mostly about what is not working, and being able to fish out the nuggets of gold that are inherent, get teams to compromise and see each other’s perspectives, foster collaboration but ultimately keep your eye on the prize – the North Star – aka customer value and the problem the product has set out to solve.

  1. How does your role fit into DeNexus’ mission to become the global standard of industrial cyber risk quantification for agencies, shareholders, investors, boards and risk transfer market?

We have a lot of expertise and great minds solving (arguably) very complex problems of true Industrial Cyber Risk Quantification. Coupled with being a remote-first, global organization, the challenges are interesting, important and need to be solved ASAP.

My role helps do just that by prioritizing product features, incorporating customer feedback, helping sales exceed their targets, optimize engineering output, protecting & growing the teams, helping Leadership position for the future and by being a sounding board/therapist for everyone. I wouldn’t want it any other way!
