Meet the DeNexus team: Mario Pio Gioiosa

DeNexus has launched a series of ever-improving cyber models, which are aimed at helping industrial organizations, underwriters, reinsurers and ILS investors fully understand the real risks associated with cyber breaches - creating a level playing field for all the stakeholders.

Here are the people behind the technology working to develop credible modelling in order to quantify cyber risk and develop a cyber-ILS market.

1. What was your career journey that led you to joining DeNexus?

After obtaining an M.Sc. in Computer Engineering, I worked as a software engineer in London for an e-commerce consultancy company. Then I moved into product development, joining BMC Software, building the market-leading product for capacity planning. I then joined lastminute.com, where I worked as technical reference in flight and pricing, serving 50 million searches and billions of prices every day.

I was fascinated about building a product that does not exist that aims to become the global standard of industrial cyber risk quantification and the challenges that this brings – that’s why I decided to join DeNexus.

2. Where will you be based? 

Lugano, Switzerland.

3. What is an average day in the life of a senior software engineer (shows skillset)

I spend the first 30 minutes reading emails, then try to define the goals I want to achieve for the day. I then sync up with the others in a 15-minute daily meeting to understand where we stand and how to organize our self to collaborate in order to reach the planned goals.

After this meeting, I start working on the planned features along with other colleagues, focusing on deliver incremental work following best practices and tools such as Secure By Design and the Zero Trust Security model.

4. How does your role fit into DeNexus’ mission to become the global standard of industrial cyber risk quantification for agencies, shareholders, investors, boards and risk transfer market?

In building a product like DeRisk we are processing extremely high levels of data in a secure and reliable way, creating a scalable system that can be easily evolved to satisfy customer needs. I am very proud that engineers are at the centre of building this platform which is creating the next generation of risk modelling.
