DeNexus is launching a series of ever-improving cyber models, which are aimed at helping industrial organizations, underwriters, reinsurers, and ILS investors fully understand the real risks associated with cyber breaches - creating a level playing field for all the stakeholders.
Here are the people behind the technology working to develop credible modeling to quantify cyber risk and develop a cyber-ILS market.
What was your career journey that led you to joining DeNexus?
I have a PhD in Astrophysics. During my career I have had the opportunity to analyze and model different types of data. After several years as a researcher, I moved to the Cyber Security Operations Centre (SOC) at the Spanish telecoms company Telefonica. There, I worked in cybersecurity, performing models for detecting and mitigating cyberthreats at the IT level.
Where will you be based?
I will be based in Spain, working within DeNexus’ European R&D team.
What is an average day in the life of a data scientist?
As a data scientist, my average day is focused on analyzing, processing, cleansing, and validating the integrity of data to find patterns, as well as creating algorithms and predictive models for developing solutions that help to solve a problem or to make a decision based on results. These tasks require skills such as mathematics, programming, statistical analysis, machine learning, and data visualization.
How does your role fit into DeNexus’ mission to become the global standard of industrial cyber risk quantification for agencies, shareholders, investors, boards, and risk transfer market?
I’ve been working in cybersecurity, performing and developing models that are actually in production. That knowledge, together with the experience acquired during my professional career in other fields (always related to data analysis) and the belief that DeNexus’ project fits very well with DeNexus’ objective to further develop our flagship product DeRISK, and to build additional capacity in the cyber risk transfer market with our unique inside-out fit-for-purpose second generation of cyber risk models for industrial corporates.
